Emotional and Timeless Moments at Oaks Pioneer Church in portland
Alissa and John’s wedding day at the beautiful Oaks Pioneer Church in Portland, Oregon was everything you’d hope for in a love story: intimate, heartfelt, and full of emotion.
As a Portland wedding videographer, I’ve had the honor of capturing so many beautiful moments, but this one was truly special. The day was centered around love, family, and connection, surrounded by the people who mean the most to them.
A Moment in History
The moment you step inside Oaks Pioneer Church, you feel the quiet weight of history and love. Built in 1851, it’s small, peaceful, and full of charm, the kind of place that feels made for meaningful promises. That’s exactly what drew John and Alissa here for their wedding day in Portland, Oregon.
Their celebration wasn’t about extravagance or spectacle. It was about connection, about family, and about the joy of finding someone who feels like home.
A Day Centered on Family
Alissa and John were surrounded by their incredible blended family, with children, loved ones, and lifelong friends who have been part of their story. Before the ceremony, they took the time to write a hand-written card for every guest. Each note carried words straight from the heart, and before long, the entire lawn was filled with happy tears.
Later, when John’s son and Alissa’s daughter stood to speak, their toasts were filled with warmth, gratitude, love, and humor. The lawn felt still for a moment as everyone listened closely, fully present in the kind of emotion that cannot be staged. These beautiful words were incredible additions to their hand-crafted wedding film.
Creating Together
It was a blast working alongside Velvet from Velvet Flare Photography, whose photos are featured here.
I love collaborating with photographers like her who share our passion for storytelling. When photo and video teams work together seamlessly, it allows couples to relax and be fully present. The right collaboration brings out the best of both worlds and creates something truly special!
The Perfect Ending
As the celebration wound down, John and Alissa snuck away to the Sellwood Bridge with a bottle of champagne to share. Just the two of them, watching the city lights dance on the water, they finally had a quiet moment to soak in the joy of the day. It was one of those scenes that reminds me why I love what I do as a Portland wedding videographer. Their wedding film captured this treasured experience perfectly, a beautiful way to end their story and celebrate the start of forever.
